From where I stood, a literal ocean of stones extended to the horizon, and a sandstorm swirled about me. At one moment, the world was dim. In the next moment, the light would pierce the shifting and grating veils of dust and debris. At all times, I had to protect my face and my lens from the fast-moving stones while scanning the scene for the next breakthrough of light. A Whisper is a scene that I've been searching for for years. A painted landscape of contrast that is dark but hopeful, bright but solemn, and is both a window into another world and a looking glass into myself. I'm not sure I did it justice, but here is my photograph from last weekend's Aurora event. I didn't find out about the aurora coming to Washington until an hour before dusk. My partner excitedly called and asked if I wanted to go. I had been awake since 5AM that day and, if it weren't for her enthusiasm, I might have skipped it. I'm glad I didn't. I lived in North Pole, Alaska, and I've been to Iceland. Last weekend's aurora event was spectacular. Among the best I've seen. We drove 2.5 hours...
